Open Inventor C++ is now based on Qt6 version. Qt5 is no longer supported as of Open Inventor 2026.1 It has some impact on the file to redistribute, see below

Open Inventor .NET is based on .NET8 instead .NET6.
Security update
Starting with this release, all cybersecurity-related improvements to the Open Inventor SDK will be systematically documented in the release notes. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Updates to third-party components and libraries.
- Fixes addressing identified security vulnerabilities.
- Any enhancement contributing to strengthening the overall security posture of the SDK.
This approach aims to increase transparency and facilitate traceability of security-related changes for our users.
In Open Inventor 2026.1, the following third-party library has been upgraded:
- Freetype : 2.5.0 -> 2.13.3
Redistribution changes
- Following the migration from Qt5 to Qt6, some QT files to redistribute have changed. See C++ application on Windows and C++ application on Linux for detail
- On Windows, we no longer deliver the Visual C++ Redistributable package (vcredist_x64.exe). However, the installation of the latest redistributable package is still required to run any application based on Open Inventor. See Microsoft Visual Studio web site to download the latest package.
Life cycle events
Dropped platforms
- Open Inventor on .NET6 is dropped and replaced by the support of .NET8
- Open Inventor on Ubuntu 20.04 is dropped and replaced by the support of Ubuntu 22.04
Future drop:
- We plan to drop the support of .NET Framework: It is deprecated as of version 2026.1 and Open Inventor 2026.2 will be the last version based on .NET Framework.
- We plan to drop the support of Windows 10 platforms in Open Inventor 2027
